AUDIENCE
I will be researching various different texts like TV dramas and films which are based around young adults . The audience I want for my programme is females aged 13-30. My genre will be teen genre which is targeted at teenagers and young adults in which the plot is based upon the special interests of teenagers, such as coming of age, first love, rebellion, conflict with parents, teen angst or alienation. Often these normally serious subject matters are presented in a glossy or stereotyped way. Some teen dramas/films appeal to young males while others appeal to young females. I aim to appeal my programme towards females.
Teen dramas have soap opera elements, incorporated into them in one or more ongoing story lines spanning several episodes. The young characters must deal with the dramatic ups and downs of their friendships and romances while facing an array of issues which are thought to be typical of adolescence. In this teen genre I will either base my programme around comedy or mystery .
E4
The E4 logo always
appears in Purple and White but in situations
Where colour
cannot be used it can appear as mono in Black. The ‘bold keyline’ and ‘E’ of
the logo is always white and never transparent.
Who they are ?
E4 is the
entertainment destination for a cutting edge young audience. It’s strange and
humorous persona and strong branding makes it a massive talking point. In my
research i found that E4 has also won channel of the year at The Broadcast
Awards in Feb 2011.
E4 is one of the
most original digital channels, which has successfully launched mega hits like
Skins, The Inbetweeners and Misfits. With loads of Facebook appreciation
groups, E4 is here to entertain.
In my reasearch I also found
that E4 has an audience of 16-34s and are largely young and upmarket, but
they’re also fashion conscious, sociable, connected, heavy internet users, they
love going out and tend to use advertising as one of their many information
sources. They are also likely to be opinion formers and more likely to talk
about brands and convince them to try them out.
In my research I also discovered that E4 had another successful year after it laid claim to outdoing both BBC2 and Channel 5 in the pursuit of viewers from the 16-34 age group.
A record high viewing share of 1.89 per cent was attained in 2013, up 2 per cent from the year previous, the ninth consecutive year the channel has upped its share. This was driven by a marked increase in young adults viewing, which hit 5.09 per cent, a rise of 3 per cent year-on-year.
Success was driven by hit shows The Big Bang Theory, New Girl and How I Met Your Mother, all of which achieved their highest series ratings to date.
Homegrown content also performed well, with Hollyoaks increasing its audience by 21 per cent to reach 0.9m and new drama My Big Fat Diary drawing in 619k.
Jay Hunt, chief creative officer said: “E4’s had a fantastic 2013 and is having a storming start to the New Year with its distinctive mix of the best of American series like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and award winning home grown shows like Made in Chelsea.”
