NO MAKEUP SELFIE- VIRAL CAMPAIGN 2014

Reasons why it was successful and other info:

-Used hashtag which was trending a lot and very popular and easy to use
-  Easily used by many people on Instagram and Facebook especially because everyone has a phone which is accessible to Internet
- Raised more than £8 million for cancer research UK
- #nomakeupselfie campign was started by teenage mother from Stoke-on-Trent. Clearly shows it was started from a young influence who is current with modern day campaigns.
- It was successful because everyone was taking selfless and the easiest way to donate is by text. They listened to the media , learnt and adapted.
-Use social media to recognise and celebrate people taking part, and share their achievements in real time. Creating buzz helps you capitalise on what you’ve already accomplished.

-Fiona Cunningham, 18, decided to encourage people to share pictures of themselves without make-up on social media, and to donate money via text message to the cancer charity, after losing family members to the disease.

- The online campaign also encouraged women to nominate friends to do the same and the trend spread, with an estimated 2.6 million women now thought to have taken part. Another reason why this capaign was so successful is because it was so easy to nominate other people.

Having celebrities also taking part in this made it even more widespread as it created awareness to millions of their fans .

In addition media being a social thing especially using facebook and Instagram it meant people were more liely to share it because they many want to be part of the trend. Maslow's theory of socal needs could be applied to this .
